ScaredyCat Informal Reflection

While watching Scaredycat, the scene that got to me the most was when there was when there was a voiceover, and the main character spoke about how he shut himself out from the world instead of facing his problems. I can definitely relate to this because I have severe anxiety. It made me especially sad watching this scene because it reminded me of my past. Back when I was not able to control it, I would lock myself in my room for hours on end to escape my problems, and it was a major cause of a lot of my issues that occurred last semester. This semester, I have much more of a solid plan to the for myself, and I am actually taking care of myself, which is what I felt the main character also did when he contacted his assailant. This scene was particularly surprising to me as well.
I felt that when he contacted his assailant, it was something he knew needed to be done. I do not think that was an easy decision for him to make or that it was a decision that other people thought he should make, but he did it for himself. He knew for closure on the tragic situation he went through, he needed to speak to his attacker and gain some other perspective on the situation than the narrow one he had been looking through. I think that he was also able to gain some type of understanding as to why the man attacked him with the others when the attacker opened up about his abusive past and how it was just a normal way of living for him. I had more specific questions about the attack like why did the others also attack him? What exact thoughts were going through their minds at that moment, and what motivated them to do that to someone? I also wondered a lot more about the childhood of the main character because I think that would have let me in more on who he was as a person, and explained more on why he did act the way he did and why he responded the way he did to that specific situation.
