Reflection for Campus Signage Project

While searching for a sign, I first realized that I vastly overestimated the amount of time I had to complete this project. I first chose a sign with paragraphs and paragraphs of information, which I soon realized was not the best idea. I chose something else eventually that had much less information, but that I felt would be an event I was interested in if the signage lured me in enough. Let's just say... it didn't. It was bland, lacked interesting features, had jumbled modules, and overall, had me very underwhelmed. After I started working with Piktochart, I realized how easy it is to actually create a sign, as long as I had an idea. This made me realize the creator of this poster maybe had little time on their hands and threw it together quickly, especially because it had repeated information that was unnecessary. I realized through the creative process that I wanted my sign to be perfect, which is obviously unattainable, but this is a flaw I have, one could say. I was definitely annoyed through the whole process because I couldn't get anything to look exactly the way I wanted it to. After I decided I was finished though, I loved the finished product, especially compared to the original.
I also realized throughout this project that even in small signs we see everyday, storytelling is extremely important. Everyone should pay attention to what they're putting out into the world, because it could give the complete opposite impression they want from the viewer. Especially when one is trying to get a good turnout for an event, the advertisement should be carefully thought out and put together to give the exact impression the advertiser wants.

  1. Great! Maybe consider posting your "before" and "after" images? Your redesign was SO much improved!
